Cristiano Ronaldo - a Gunner?

Christiano Ronaldo almost became an Arsenal player before his 2003 move to Manchester United according to a report from Fox Sports Friday morning. Ronaldo claimed that Wenger and he had talked about a move to Arsenal that led to the player being “inches away” from the Emirates. It was not until Manchester United came in with a bid of almost three times the amount Arsenal were prepared to pay that the tide swung in favour of the Red Devils.
When asked how close he came to being an Arsenal player, Ronaldo said “I have a lot of respect for Wenger, he is a very clever man. I was within an inch (of joining Arsenal).”
This begs the question then of whether Arsene Wenger’s desire to be frugal when searching for players may have ended up costing his team as they continually lose prized transfer targets to their more loose pocketed rivals. Would Arsenal be better today if they had succeeded in landing Ronaldo? My guess would be yes. One thing is for certain though, with the near $100m price tag placed on Ronaldo’s head by Real Madrid this summer, we won’t be seeing Ronaldo in Arsenal colours any time soon.

The thought of Ronaldo playing for Arsenal is too horrific to contemplate!
Last year they were shocking up front and Ronnie got his 42 goals……. shudder the thought!!
