Cristiano Ronaldo Looking Forward to South Africa
Real Madrid’s Portuguese star forward Cristiano Ronaldo told newspapers Monday that the World Cup will be a good way for him to overcome the disappointment of finishing rinners-up in La Liga.
Sunday’s final round of matches saw Barcelona capture their twentieth league title and second in as many years with a resounding 4-0 thumping of Valladolid, while Madrid could only muster a disappointing 1-1 draw at Malaga. Barca’s win, in truth, was never in doubt, but Real’s lack of a cutting edge, in a game they knew they had to win to avoid a trophy-less campaign, was worrying to say the least.
Ronaldo though disappointed, remained upbeat stating: “We had a good season. Next year will be better. I can now look forward to a great World Cup with Portugal.”
Ronaldo is set to captain his side during the month-long extravaganza, which is set to be held on the African Continent for the first time ever. Portugal are among the favorites behind Spain, Brazil, England, and The Netherlands to win the tournament that gets underway on June 11 as hosts South Africa face Mexico.
