Ronaldo Bullish After Sub-Par World Cup

Portuguese star striker, Cristiano ROnaldo, has responded to criticism of his performances at the World Cup by guaranteeing a Champions League trophy for Real Madrid next season.

“Of course,” he explains “The World Cup was extremely disappointing for me as a player and as a Portugal fan.  I wish I could have played my best and delivered a World Cup for Portugal. But I promise things will be different for Real next year.  We will win the Champions League.”

Ronaldo’s comments come on the back of a World Cup that saw him score just one goal - that came as a result of a fortuitous bounce off the back of his head in the 7-0 thrashing of North Korea - and Portugal knocked out at the last-16 stage.  But his Real Madrid side showed little to suggest they are among the favorites for the European Cup as they were ousted by Lyon at the quarter-final stage.

Bookies have Real listed as joint second favourites, along with Manchester United and Chelsea, just bhind Barcelona.
