ROnaldo proves decisive as united scrape past everton

Cristiano Ronaldo converted a penalty on the stroke of half time to earn a hard fought win for Manchester United.

Ronaldo scored after Michael Carrick had been felled by Mikel Arteta to give United a five point lead at the summit of the Barclays Premiership.

United were well worth their victory but were made to work hard for the points by a typically resilient Everton side.  The toffees however, posed almost no threat to Edwin Van Der Sar’s goal, allowing him to complete his record 12th straight game without conceding.

Sir Alex Ferguson can now relax and watch as his two closest rivals face off on Sunday in a match of massive title implications.  “I’ll be looking for a draw (on sunday)” Sir Alex beamed.  Indeed a stalemate would leave United in total control of the league, 7 points clear if they win their game in hand.

Carlos Tevez, starting in place of an injured Wayne Rooney was industrious as ever, earning man of the match honours.  Indeed Tevez has been in fabulous form of late, something Sir Alex can only be delighted with.

United now sit 5 points clear of both Liverpool and Chelsea with a game in hand and are short 2/7 favourites with Ladbrokes to retain their crown.
