Ronaldo thrashes home his lethal winner

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a truly emphatic free kick to sink Blackburn rovers and Send Manchester United 7 points clear at the top of the Premiership.

United were heading towards two dropped points, being held 1-1 after conceeding their first premiership goal in over 23 hours of football to a tidy Roque Santa Cruz finish.

Wayne Rooney had put the hosts ahead after tapping in Nani’s cross for his fouth goal in his last four games.  Twenty minutes later however, Rovers were level after a mistake from Paul Scholes and John O’Shea allowed Santa Cruz to race clear before slotting home past Tomasz Kuszkzak.

Then, cometh the hour, cometh the man.  Cristiano Ronaldo first won the freekick, which was 30 yards out and on a tight angle, then rifled it past Paul Robinson’s outstratched hand to earn 3 points for his team.

This may have been just one of many free kick goals from Ronaldo, but may have be his best, not to mention his most important.  No less than 18 hours after Ronaldo had won the pointd for United, title rivals Liverpool drew at home to Manchester City, a result that puts an 11th league title within reach of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Next up for Ronaldo and the Red Devils - a trip to the San Siro to take on Italian giants Internatzionale Milano.  Ronaldo will be looking to prove that he is still the world’s best player as he comes up against Swedish superstar Slatan Ibrahimovic for the very first time.
