Cristiano Ronaldo sat out, along with Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov, as Carlos Tevez took center stage, firing 4 goals in Manchester United’s thrilling a 5-3 win over Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday.  Ronaldo, along with Rooney and Berbatov were rested for this Carling Cup quarter final that pitted ex manchester United player Paul Ince against his old boss.

The gaggle of stars that were given the night off were barely missed as Carlos tevez opened the scoring in the 36th minute, before assisting for Luis Nani after just before half-time.  Blackburn pulled one back after the break but were soon silenced a minute later as Tevez scored from the penalty spot.  Two more Tevez strikes, offset by three Rovers goals from Benni McCarthy (2) and Matt Derbyshire saw United run out less than comfortable winners in a topsy-turvy match.

Ronaldo and the rest of United’s stars watched from the cheap seats and they were no doubt pleased with what they saw.  This was a huge performance for Carlos Tevez who had been struggling to get a run in the team, but took this opportunity to prove his undoubted worth.

The match also saw a run-out for Paul Scholes who has not played since injuring his knee in late September.

United are now in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup, along with Spurs, Burnley and Derby County.
